Growing Up Today is Than Ever
The expectations placed on us can be overwhelming, and it seems like everyone else is just living such a perfect little life. Come to find out, that’s just not true. But the only way to find that out is to really talk with someone. Not just small stuff, but the real stuff that matters. That’s what Life Launch Centers is all about. A place where you can really talk and open up about the important stuff with other people your age that get it.
THE PROGRAM - THREE COMPONENTS
When you get together with people your own age to talk about stuff that truly matters, that’s when growth really starts to happen. Hearing what others are dealing with and being able to bounce your experiences off of them helps you feel you’re not alone in your struggles and gives you a lot of insight. Facilitated by a Life Launch Centers counselor the group learns resiliency principles and has opportunities to practice those principles together.
1 - Group Sessions
This is really what it's all about. Getting together with people your own age, talking about stuff that really matters. Hearing what others are dealing with and being able to relate. This isn't just hanging out once in a while, you're with your group 3-4 times a week learning the tools to be able to do the things you really want to do in life.
2 - Individual Sessions
Because everyone is unique, a little one-on-one time with a counselor is important. Individual sessions help you establish what you really want in life. Then we look at what it's going to take to get there and develop a plan for you to achieve it. Whether it's making some solid friendships, overcoming fears and doubts, or reaching your greatest dreams in life, together we'll pick out the stress tolerance tools you'll need to make it happen.
3 - Family Group Sessions
Real change is brought about by working together with a team. Family group sessions help bring parents and children together by establishing values and goals for yourself, and creating accountability. Parents get to learn the resiliency tools you are taught in group, so they are able to learn how to relate to you at home. You, your family and the counselor decide together when the goals have been reached and when you're ready to graduate from the group.
Is This Just a Phase?
How do you know if what you’re experiencing is “normal,” if it is just a phase you’re going through, or if you might want to look into getting some help understanding your emotions? Adolescent development is a complex process and there are a lot of environmental elements to consider as well. All of us experience mood swings and varying emotions from time to time. Perhaps the most telling indicator is the length of time that you may have these uncomfortable emotions.
Life can be very complicated at times with all the unique challenges we go through. What some experience as “normal” behavior and feelings, others find alarming and unfamiliar territory. Trying to understand what’s going on inside your own head is hard enough as it is, so we tried to do away with all the psychological language in the “For Youth” sections and focus on what you’re feeling and experiencing. Take a close look at the Emotionometers. They can really help you gauge where you’re at and find some answers.
